#1 Civic Achievement‐ The Kellogg Civic Achievement Award (Silver snack tray by Michigan Garden Clubs,
Inc.)

OVERALL WINNER: Ai-Gateway Garden Club (WV)
Gateway Garden Club of Martinsburg, WV, has spent three years establishing a magnificent children’s garden that
embraces nature, beauty, conservation and learning for the children of Berkeley County. There is a 15 foot mountain,
a wooden lookout tower, a water source, a butterfly garden and many other features. The club assisted in obtaining
over $96,000 in contributions and grants to fund the project. This is truly an amazing project from a club of 20
members!

OVERALL WINNER‐(Ai) Gateway Garden Club-(WV) This club has been working hard to establish a beautiful
learning center for children. It contains a large bird nest metal structure for the children to experience what it
would be like to help build a nest, and then enjoy being in the nest after it was completed. The children are
encouraged to weave these materials in and out of the metal bars to make their own nest. A two-day mini-camp is
offered to teach bird facts, how to eat like a bird, and how birds protect themselves.

#74‐Outdoor Classrooms, Nature Trails
OVERALL WINNER: (Aii) Grenada Garden Club- ($750.00) (MS) The Old River Nature Trail has been an ongoing project of
the Grenada Garden Club. After a flood in 1983 damaged the trail, the club began working with the Army Corp of
Engineers to restore the trail. It has since been declared a state arboretum, due to the efforts of this club and they have
continued to improve and restore this outdoor classroom.
